LITTLE BROWN
LIGHT
THE OTHER THEME PARK
Yesterday, I went to the OTHER theme park in Orlando, Florida. For
those of
you who love Mickey Mouse, even the first and last letters of "ORLANDO" look
like his famous
big, black, round ears. I grew up singing
"M-I-C-K-E-Y...MOUSE" right along with all those baby boomers.
Now we are
growing old together. Mickey must be touching up that grey in his whiskers.
So, in grateful recognition
of my latest birthday, I got a discount at the
ticket booth. To some, Mickey might be the greatest show, but the
other
theme park tells the greatest story...
The Holy Land Experience is just a hop, skip and
a scamper down the
interstate from Mickey and his friends. At this park, you can see things
like the market
in Jerusalem. There are disciples walking right in front of
you on their way to their next drama performance.
You can have a moment
with Mary or Martha or the lady who was cured from the blood disease. Roman
soldiers
strut around in full regalia. You can hear praise music on the
speakers as you stroll. The beautiful green
hedges across the lake are
trimmed to read, "He is Risen!" There's a Garden of Gethsemane not too far
up the hill from the Garden tomb and a hill that serves well as the place of
the crucifixion. You can take your
place at the last supper table and
receive the cup and the bread and hear Jesus say some of His famous last
words
and sing a hymn with Him on the way to the cross.
There is a place called "The Scriptorium"
which shows the writing, the
preservation and the authenticity of the Word of God. Amazing. In the
final
room, the stone tablets of the Ten Commandments are carved with the
finger of God right before your eyes, thanks to laser
lights and wonderful
sound effects. You feel like you are standing on Mt. Sinai beside Moses.
There is a replica
of the temple. You see Jesus move quietly into the
courtyard. Suddenly, tables and merchandise begin to fly
everywhere as He
cleanses the House of Prayer. Then, there is that blood on the sidewalk,
right next to Mary's tears.
After the scourging, Jesus fell several times
on his way to the top of that hill. His blood was all over the sidewalk.
They didn't wash it off after the reenactment. They just left it there.
People respectfully walked around it
for the rest of the day. I watched as
they hammered the nails going into His hands and feet and then as they hit
the back of the cross with the hammer to remove the nails so they could take
him down and head to the tomb.
I watched Him walk out of that tomb.
All day long, we watched the Bible come alive.
So,
I went to the OTHER theme park in Orlando yesterday.
Jesus said to say hello and that He loves you.
